(Unlocked IMG Instructions)
Use either Part A or Part B depending on your choice:
Part A Internal Memory
1. Connect your device to the computer.
2. Go into the Nuvi files and backup the file named gmapprom.img to your computer.
3. Delete the gmapprom.img file from the device.
4. Copy the unlocked gmapprom.img file that you downloaded into the device.
5. Restart your device and check your map info via : Tools>Settings>Map>Map Info.
Part B SD Card
1. Get a 2GB SD card (NOT SDHC) and format it FAT or FAT32
2. Create a folder on the memory card called Garmin
3. Copy the downloaded IMG file into the ?Garmin folder on your SD card.
4. Make sure the IMG file is named gmapsupp.img on the SD card.
5. Insert the SD card into your ?Garmin GPS and browse to your map information on your ?Garmin GPS and you should see the new maps selected. This can be found on the device via : Tools>Settings>Map>Map Info. (Note: The SD card must remain in your device if you want to use the maps.)
Why is the file name important?
This must be done because this is not the primary mapset as it is being used from the SD card. The primary mapset is the one on the GPSs internal memory.

Instruction:
With SD card:
1. Download the files
2. Get a SD card 2GB (SD, not SDHC), and make sure it is formatted FAT or FAT32
(Sau khi gan SD card vao comp, thí du SD drive là E: thi ban nhap chuôt mat vào E: va chon Format.
Mot window mo ra, phía duoi File System, ban cu thu chon FAT or FAT32)
3. Create a folder on the SD card called "Garmin"
4. Copy and paste the image file gmapsupp.img into that folder
5. Insert the SD card into your Garmin GPS if it's not already in.
6. Turn on your GPS and then browse to your map information on your Garmin GPS and you should see the new maps selected.
Go to Tools>Settings>Map>Map Info
7. Make sure your old maps are de-selected, or it will show two POI's for an identical location.
8. You now have the newest maps on your Garmin unit.
No SD Card:
1. Plug your GPS into your computer using the USB cable and open the drive.
2. Go to the Garmin folder and find the gmapprom.img file and move it to your PC
(This is your old map image and you should keep a backup of it just in case).
3. After transferring the old image to your computer, transfer the new gmapsupp.img to the Garmin folder on the GPS.
Remember, this image is 1.39GB, so make sure your Garmin GPS has enough internal memory.
If not, you will have to buy a SD card.
4. After transferring, rename the new image from "gmapsupp" to "gmapprom"
(Not sure if you have to rename it or not, try both names and see, maybe somebody can post a comment if not renaming it works)
5. Unplug and restart GPS, then check to see if the new maps show up under your Map info.
6. If for some reason, the new maps or your GPS does not work right.
Just delete the image file, and move your old image file back onto your GPS.

Nếu GPS của bạn không nhận memory card lớn hơn 2GB thì thường firmware cũ không support loại lớn hơn 2GB. Cái này bạn có thể upgrade firmware rồi có thể dùng SDHC khoảng 8GB (tui cha thử loại lớn hơn nên không biết). Và nhiều máy mới sau này không còn dùng SD nừa mà dùng MicroSD.
Garmin City Navigator North American 2011.40 unlocked là bản đồ mới nhất cho nhừng GPS của hàng Garmin. Unlocked là phần đã được nhóm hacker lấy đi, hủy bỏ phần copy protection mà Garmin chỉ cho phép bản đồ làm việc với GPS nào mình bỏ tiền ra mua bản đồ cho máy đó. Mỗi máy có 25-ký hiệu khác nhau, khi mua bản đồ (map) thì Garmin sẽ cho một chìa khóa (KEY) để mở phần protection cho máy đó

Cái UNLOCKED nghĩa là đã được mở khóa, không nhừng nó có thể chạy không cần KEY mà còn có thể chạy với hết các Garmin GPSes.
1. Tên của file có 2 tên gmapprom.img và gmapsupp.img
gmapprom.img là file bạn thấy trong internal memory (ổ chứa của GPS)
gmapsupp.img là file bạn copy vô external memory card (thẻ chứa).
Nghĩa là nếu bạn muốn thay cái trong internal memory thì đổi tên là gmapprom.img , còn nếu muốn copy vô thẻ chứa (external memory) thì đổi tên thành gmapsupp.img
2. Vì Unlocked map đã được mở khóa cho nên bạn không cần phải cài đặt (install) mà chỉ cần COPY vô folder \Garmin là được
Nhưng cũng còn tùy OS (Operating System) bạn dùng, thí dụ như Windows có khi được setup không hiện ra nhừng folder hoặc system files. Nên bạn phải setup Windows Explorer cho phép nó hiện ra system file và folder. Sau đó bạn mới thấy để copy
3. Tui khuyên nên copy vô External Memory. Bạn chỉ cần
ạ Mua 1 memory card 4-8GB
b. Format nếu cần, sau đó làm một folder tên "GARMIN" rồi copy gmapsupp.img vô đó. Thế là xong
c. Mở GPS lên bạn vô phần SETUP, tới MAP và chọn phần INFO bạn sẽ thấy có 2 bản đồ (1) trong Internal memory (2) External Memory
d. Bạn uncheck [ ] cái bản đồ cũ trong internal memory, và [x] cái bản đồ mới trong external memory
Và thế là bạn có bản đồ mới

Hehe...sorry nha Việt không hiểu " đ/c" là cái gì..và nửa...mình không có sử dụng Garmin...chỉ kiếm về dùm các bạn thôi...nên không biết gì hết...hehe..

Nếu mấy trang web mà bạn đã save địa chỉ trong favorites , khi bạn save trang web đó lại 1 lần nửa thì nó sẽ báo cho bạn biết và sẽ hỏi bạn có muốn overwrite hay không.Nguyên Văn Bài Viết Của dinh09 View Post Cám ơn Bác Việt Hỏi bác cái này, mấy cái đ/c mình đã save trong favorites nó có còn không hay là sẽ bị overwrite
